ELITE Portal Information Hierarchy

Below is a summary of the hierarchy and key definitions as used in the ELITE Portal:

  • Program: Represents a group of scientists collaborating on a shared research goal. The terms Program and Consortia are often used interchangeably.

  • Projects: Typically associated with an NIH grant, projects are subgroups within a program. The terms Project and Grant are also used interchangeably.

  • Studies: The main unit of data organization. Each study corresponds to a specific research effort, such as data from human cohorts, model systems, or analyses tied to a publication. A single project may include multiple studies.

    • Cohort Builder: A tool for exploring data and attributes of individual human study participants.

  • People: Researchers and stakeholders who contribute to the portal’s content and form the consortium.

  • Publications: Research outputs related to studies. Many are Open Access and accessible to the public. (Note: Pre-prints are not included.)

  • Computational Tools: Resources provided to assist the research community with data analysis and exploration.
